Cupping has gained a lot of recognition lately, though it is a very ancient therapy. Cupping is a type of suction therapy used for painful obstruction, muscle spasm, and release of pathogenic factor. Using a suction cup to create a vacuum this brings stagnation and toxic congestion from deeper levels to the surface of the skin. This allows congestion to be eliminated via the capillary system.

There are different methods of cupping: moving, quick and fire cupping. Cups may be left in place at times, for ten minutes or less, and can give rise to red or purple markings - as we saw on the Olympic swimmers. These marks may take several days to fade away.

The benefits of cupping can provide immediate relief or can shorten the duration of treatment.
